Get your first provisional driving licence online from the DVLA for a car, motorcycle, moped, or other vehicle. Applicants must:
- be at least 15 years and 9 months old
- be able to read a number plate from 20 metres away
- have been permitted to live in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) for at least 185 days

You must use this service to obtain a new licence if your application for a provisional licence was submitted before 1 March 1973.

For £34, you can apply online. You can pay with a debit or credit card from MasterCard, Visa, Electron, or Delta.
What you’ll need:
- an identity document, such as your passport
- addresses where you’ve lived for up to the last 3 years
If you know your National Insurance number, you may be asked for it and other details.
Following your application, the DVLA will send you a confirmation email.
If you apply online, your licence should arrive within a week. However, it might take longer if the DVLA needs to conduct additional checks.
